People and Pets
Surveys show about 50% of photography focuses on people. The remaining percentage of photos are split between animal, landscape and objects. Selfies, Portrait, Event, Fashion and Social Media Photography all contribute to this fascination with the planet’s most complex, creative and unpredictable creatures, People. With almost 8.5 billion people on our planet, it isn’t hard to find someone to capture an image of. However, with so much color and art in the natural world it seems surprising people would be the subject of such a high percentage of photographs taken. Almost certainly, there are more beautiful sunsets, golden sunrises, endless vistas and flowers of unlimited colors than there are people? Surely there are objects of interest that are far less complicated and far more cooperative that one can capture images of other than people. However, what can stir emotions, shared experiences and lasting memories more than photographs of people, of others like ourselves. From the love and joy seen in photos of newborns and newlyweds to the pain and loss revealed by natural disasters and war, most really do care about others circumstances. People want to connect, to make memories. Photography makes that happen.
The photos in this gallery are of a variety of people and groups of people that offer the viewer an opportunity to share their moment in time. I included pets in this gallery because pets and animals play such a big role in the lives of people. Often, the two are inseparable, enjoying a relationship that is mutually supportive, both emotionally and physically.
