Moments in Time
As I looked through photos to select for the galleries for this website, I found many just didn’t seem to fit a theme. Many photos could have gone into more than one gallery and some didn’t seem to fit any gallery. When they didn't, I realized our time here is really dominated by simple, everyday events and occurrences. Those big things we experience and their impact are usually events lasting far longer than a moment in time and rarely forgotten. I realized life is just a series of unremarkable moments, punctuated by highs and lows of varying degrees, woven together by the thread of time to create a tapestry illustrating our story. Just everyday moments. Moments that don’t stand out particularly or fit a gallery yet make an impression, generate thought or maybe ignite our curiosity.
These moments are fleeting yet almost limitless in number, defined simply by the duration of the experience and most often unique to the observer. Black and white photographs seem to be more closely aligned with this concept as the absence of color allows the viewer to connect more closely with the subject of the photograph. With their lack of color and grainy appearance, black and white photos can also possess a dreamlike quality limiting the experience to what feels like mere moments yet creating a lasting memory.
