The Eternal Sun
Not only does the Sun provide the necessary warmth and energy to sustain life on Earth it is the artist responsible for the panoramic masterpieces that occur in our skies each day for us to see and enjoy. Who hasn’t marveled at a morning sunrise with layered clouds that filter the Sun’s rays and illuminate the eastern sky in brilliant reds, yellows and oranges. If the sunrise is just too early in the day for you, you can catch the encore performance that takes place later as the Sun drops slowly below the western horizon. Casting its light across the sky long after it is no longer visible, we are treated to a dynamic art exhibition of blazing intensity.
Between the two performances the day is filled with 12 hours or so of light, providing life sustaining warmth and energy for our survival as the Sun illuminates the day on its journey across the sky. Being the primary source of both visible and invisible light that reaches the Earth, sunlight bathes the leaves of plants and trees to produce life giving nutrients. Seen as a celestial god and worshipped by past civilizations, the Sun is not simply the star at the center of our solar system, the gravitational anchor that holds it all together. The Sun is the source of light and color we see, influencing our perception of photography, visual art and the world around us.
