Botanical Beauty

What would life be without the beauty we find in the flowers, trees, shrubs and grasses that blanket Earth?  There are currently 73,300 known species of trees and over 391,000 known species of plants on the planet.  With 350,000 of those plant species being flowering plants, it’s not surprising there is so much botanical beauty around us to enjoy.  Primarily for the attraction of pollinators, the flower is part of the reproduction process that ensures the plant will produce seeds and the species continues to survive.  There is no denying their beauty.

Some trees and plants are not flowering but possess the beauty of shape, form and color that are equally as appealing to the observer.  A closer look at a leaf reveals the intricate vascular system that serves to move water and nutrients through the leaves and provide structural support.  An amazingly complex yet efficient network of pathways that display a foundational beauty unrivaled by human design.  When all their leaves have fallen, a tree appears to bare its very soul as limbs are no longer hidden and their truth revealed.  Although they may lack the colors of a flowering tree or shrub, their beauty is undeniable.

Every day is an opportunity to connect with the world that surrounds us.  Poet Ralph Waldo Emerson is quoted, “Nature is Medicinal”.  Take a moment when outdoors and appreciate the botanical beauty and healing nature, from colorful flowers to towering trees, that surrounds us, that we are a part of.

I hope you enjoy the photos and will search for that beauty each time you venture out.  Please scroll down and select a photo to view the Gallery.
